These keys [ALT-F1, ALT-F2, and ALT-F3] only lock into place the columns 1 through 3 into a stationary position. This means that the columns will not scroll off the screen when you toggle to the right. The screen shot below has the first two columns (RI & ITEM) locked and I have scrolled over a few columns.
